PLX on Show at PEI ConventionSeptember 18, 2017

We are gearing up for the PEI Convention, as part of the NACS show, next month, where we will be showcasing our specialist fuel conveyance system, PLX, at the premier industry event for the world’s fuel and fluid handling equipment and services industry.

PEI

PLX fuels community pontoonAugust 11, 2017

A community-led project to construct a new pontoon in the Scottish Highlands turned to our specialist fuel conveyance pipe system, PLX, to provide a safe and reliable fuel line.

ulva-ferry-terminal

The Mull and Iona Community Trust (MICT) secured funding for a new pontoon at Ulva Ferry Terminal to boost tourism and local employment. Situated on Mull’s Sound of Ulva, the Ulva Ferry Pontoon facility, manufactured and installed by Gaelforce Engineering, provides the only secure berthing on the West of Mull, offering berths for eight visiting craft.

The new pontoon required a re-fuelling station and, looking for a reliable pipework system to serve the filling station, Gaelforce Engineering turned our specialist fuel conveyance pipe system PLX.

PLX dual contained pipe in size 63#75mm was installed to transfer marine gasoil (red diesel) from an onshore bunded tank, through a service duct along the access gangways and across the pontoon to the fuel cabinet.

Ensuring fuel does not leak into the environment is always of paramount importance, but with the pipework in this project running along a floating structure, safe fuel transfer was vital. Any leaks into the atmosphere would not only pollute the seawater below, but could also potentially endanger marine life, and so PLX was selected due to its increased permeation resistance, offering the reassurance that fuel would not permeate the pipe wall. PLX Close-Fit goes largeJanuary 7, 2016

plx-large-diameter-close-fit-copy

We are expanding our specialist fuel conveyance system, PLX, with the addition of larger diameter sizes to the close-fit range, offering customers further flexibility when specifying pipework for forecourt applications.

Launched in response to market demand for a large bore, dual contained close-fit pipe, the new sizes have been introduced to offer a more compact and streamlined pipe system for the fill and vent aspect of forecourt installations. Currently available in sizes up to 63#75, PLX Close-Fit has been expanded to include two new sizes; 90#110 and 110#125, helping to significantly reduce the time it takes to install the product.

While PLX already offers a dual contained pipe-in-pipe option in larger diameters, a need was identified to produce large bore close-fit pipe for fill and vent applications that have less space and require a smaller, more compact system. The lighter nature of PLX Close-Fit also makes it easier to handle on site, aiding installation when fitting the pipe in confined spaces.  Read more…

PLX launches one-weld transitionsNovember 15, 2015

plx-one-weld-transitions-copyWe are enhancing our specialist fuel conveyance pipe system, PLX, with the launch of a new collection of ‘one-weld’ transitions for the Close-Fit range, aiding the installation process for installers, contractors and end users.

Introduced to simplify the multiple steps currently required to weld transitions, the new products allow the installer to reduce the number of welds at the end of a pipe run, making significant savings on installation time and costs.

Previously only available in 32#40mm size, the transitions are now available in sizes 50#63mm and 63#75mm in a choice of mild steel or stainless steel. The transitions utilise innovative ‘one-weld’ technology to ensure that a continuous secondary contained system is installed, by welding the inner and outer pipes in a secondary contained system at the same time.  Read more…

Durapipe PLX warms up Kent & Canterbury hospitalNovember 15, 2013

Durapipe PLX has been installed as part of a refurbishment project at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

Kent and Canterbury Hospital, located in Kent, has received significant investment over the past few years and has undergone major refurbishments to various areas of the hospital. The latest project required the refurbishment of the hospital’s pipework systems, in particular the hot water and heating system. The main diesel line within the hospital continually feeds the boilers, tanks and generators, which in turn, supply the hospital with heating and hot water. It was essential that during the refurbishment, the diesel line was replaced with a high performance pipework system in order for the system to remain effective.

Canterbury Hospital

Contractor, Kent County 24/7, was tasked with installing Durapipe PLX during the project due to the reliability and ease of installation the product offers.

Specified in sizes 25mm – 50mm, Durapipe PLX was selected for its high performance properties; a visible protective liner allows increased resistance to all types of fuel blends, ensuring there is no permeation of fuel into the atmosphere.  In addition, its robust polyethylene material provides exceptional resistance to rapid crack propagation and long-term stress cracking. The ‘power’ of plasticMarch 28, 2013

David Naylor our PLX brand manager discusses the importance of a reliable uninterruptible power supply in hospitals

GartnavelThe provision of uninterruptable power supplies and fuel powered generators is a critical part of modern hospital buildings. Hospitals rely on this emergency power supply to avoid putting both staff and patients at risk in the event of a power cut. Even though these emergency power supplies are indispensible there is often little consideration into the workings of these systems at the outset of a build project.

Fuel powered generators are often used to provide power if the main power source fails. They function through a pipework system transporting fuel from underground or above-ground storage tanks to an emergency generator, which will then provide a temporary power supply whilst the main system is repaired or replaced. Durapipe PLX brings warmth to Eastwood Park prisonNovember 12, 2012

A newly built healthcare block at a female prison in South Gloucestershire is being heated with help from Durapipe PLX pipework.

Specified by contractor, Engineering Services, PLX has been installed at Eastwood Park Prison to carry fuel oil to the boilers that power the central heating and hot water system in the new healthcare block, recently built on the prison grounds.

Having used PLX in many previous installations, Engineering Services knew the high quality pipework system could be relied upon for the safe transfer of fuel. The pipework was to be installed underground and so Engineering Services needed to be confident of a system that would ensure no pollution of fuel into the ground.

As a result, the PLX close-fit pipe system was specified in 63#75mm to transport fuel oil from the main fuel tank on the Prison site underground to the boilers within the new healthcare block. Read more…
